Fire Department Field Trip
Above is a wonderful picture of my classroom and me all dressed up!
The students were able to run the water hose that was on the boat.
They even showed us the classroom they learn in and expressed the importance of school.

Capacity
We had lots of fun learning about capacity. First we estimated how many cups an object would hold. Then we measured to see how many cups it actually held. We had water everywhere, but had a lot of fun doing it!
Student friendly: I can describe and compare objects in different ways.
Tuesday, April 12, 2016
Above, you will see the students watching the screen as two students present their findings with their measurements. We first made an estimation as to how long we thought the object was, then we measured to see how long it actually was. Finally, we came back to whole group and they presented their information to the rest of the class. They love getting to use the projector and act like teachers.
Student Friendly: I can describe and compare the length and weight of objects.

Positional Words
Yesterday, we worked on positional words like outside and inside. The students drew a sentence and colored a picture to go with it. They then presented it to the rest of the class by being teachers. It was quite funny how they portrayed a teacher.
My dog is outside in his doghouse.

Letter Ww
First, we made a list of all the things we could think of that started with letter Ww.
Then, we created sentences by using a word from our list.

Learning About Rainbows
Scholastic is a great way to learn. We read all about rainbows and then used water colors to create our own rainbows.
Sorting Money
The students worked in groups to sort coins. It is always great to see the students working together!
Student Friendly Objective: I can identify a penny, nickel, dime, quarter, and dollar bill.

Word Pattern Center
Above, you will see a student working at the word pattern center. They have to find all the words that end the same, put them on the tree, and then write the words. We also discussed how the words rhyme.
Student Friendly: I can write words with the short vowel sound. I can recognize words that rhyme.
Play-Doh Fun!
How fun does this look? We have been working hard all year to learn our sight words. We now have another fun way to practice, Play-Doh!
Student Friendly: I can identify my sight words.

All About Seeds
This week we are learning all about seeds. The kids had a lot of fun learning how to plant alfalfa. As soon as we finished planting, one of the kids asked why it hadn't grown yet. So cute!
Above and below, you will see the kids mixing up the dirt.
Everyone had a turn at watering our plant! I'm not sure what they liked more, actually watering or being able to use the squirt bottle.
We found a seed we had planted!
Center Work Using Cubes
I love letting my kids explore and learn on their own with little guidance from me. At one of my centers, I gave the students Unifix cubes and told them I was looking for something creative. They produced just that! I got everything from airplanes to them making different patterns. The picture above shows two of my students holding letters they made from the cubes. That is actually not the part I loved, they were actually creating sight words! I was so excited to see the center working together to produce something we have been working on. Unfortunately, they started to clean up before I could take a picture so all I could get were a few letters. This was a very proud teacher moment!

Surprise Guest
Friday before break, we were surprised with a special guest. An aide from the school plays guitar and even has his own band! I love bringing in new people to our classroom, so I invited him over to play for us. It was great to see the kids singing along. I hope he has inspired many of these young children to pursue music. Music is such a magical thing!
If I had a pot of GOLD!
Our March bulletin board turned out so cute! Even though several of our students were absent, we were able to make an adorable project. Each of the students finished the sentence, if I had a pot of gold. Some answers were very unique! I just love seeing how much they are growing with their writing.
Happy Birthday, Dr. Seuss!
We used our weekly readers to complete a little friendly competition. The students had 5 minutes to find as many of their sight words/high frequency words as they could. The winner received the chance to chose which Dr. Seuss book we would read before lunch. They had a lot of fun!
U is for Underwater
How cute are these? We had so much fun learning about oceans, lakes, and rivers all while learning about the letter Uu.
It's Valentine's Day!
Above, you will see the students enjoying their delicious snack! They had to earn their party by spelling out the word CANDY. Not only did they have to work really hard to earn all of the letters, but they had to be able to tell me what the word was that they had spelled. This was a very fun way to earn a reward.
Finally, the moment they had all been waiting for.... DECORATING BAGS! It was so much fun to see the concentration they had while decorating.
Look at this huge pile of goodies! I am so spoiled by my lovely students.
My apologies!
I must apologize as I am very far behind in my postings. Room 4 has been very busy and we are very excited to share all of our adventures with you!

A Field Trip to the Dentist
We got to brush the teeth of sugar bugs.
We were able to color fun pictures of teeth.
We sorted food to determine if they were good or bad for our teeth.
A movie about teeth played while we got to snack on popcorn.
They even let us put fake germs on our hands.
Don't worry! We washed them off and then got to check again to make sure the germs all came off.
Finally, we became dentists and took care of a patient.
E is for Eggs
Who says you cannot have Easter eggs in February! This was a great activity to talk about patterns and the beginning sound of the letter 'e'.
Student Friendly Objective: I know the sounds that the letters make.
Visitors to Room 4
I cannot thank another teacher enough for giving my room the opportunity to hear other kids reading. A 1st grade classroom came to our room today to read stories they wrote. My students were great listeners and were so motivated to write their own stories. What a great way to get all students involved and motivated.

It's great to feel appreciated!
There is nothing quite like being told you're doing a great job! I appreciate all of the parents in my room.
Room 4 Thinks Books are Groovy!
Above, you will see the kids working with water color.
The finished product. I think it turned out so cute!

Sight Word Centers
The students love the white board I use at circle rug, so I decided to make it a center. When they are here, they simply try and write as many sight words as they can. Then, they can turn around to check the word wall to make sure their spelling is correct.
As you all know, writing is huge in Kindergarten. The student above is writing their sight words. Also take note of the finger space. I just love it!
